If you searched for Misaq Canada, you were probably trying to find out one of two things: what Misaq actually is, or whether you can use it where you live. Short answers first, then the part that is specific to Canada.

What Misaq is, briefly

A marriage app for Muslims where the wali registers before matching begins and has their own dashboard, every member is verified with government ID and a live selfie, you see one compatible match at a time rather than a feed, and it is free until a real connection happens.

The full explanation, and what the name means, is on the main Misaq page.

Muslim marriage in Canada

Pew Research Center puts the Muslim population of Canada at around 1.9 million in 2020, 4.9 percent of the country. Over the decade from 2010 that number grew by 71%, with the community concentrated in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa.

Canada posted the steepest Muslim population growth of any Western country in the Pew data for this decade, overwhelmingly through immigration. That produces a particular situation: a large share of marriageable adults are recent arrivals whose parents, uncles and prospective walis are still in Karachi, Damascus, Lagos or Tehran.

The traditional route assumes a family that is physically present and socially connected. Neither holds for someone who landed in Calgary eighteen months ago. The aunty network takes a decade to build and most people are not willing to wait that long.

This is the case Misaq is most directly designed for. A wali who lives eight time zones away can still register, see the match, and be part of the conversation from the beginning rather than being phoned at the end.

Among the 23 countries in this series, Canada has the 18th largest Muslim population and the 2nd fastest growth over the decade.

What is available today

Misaq has not launched yet. We are saying that plainly because the alternative is letting a page like this imply otherwise.

Two things are open right now, and they are the same everywhere:

When the app does open, it opens to the waitlist first.

Common questions

Is Misaq available in Canada?

Not yet. Misaq has not launched in any country. The waitlist is open to people in Canada now, and the app opens to the waitlist first.

How many Muslims live in Canada?

Around 1.9 million as of 2020, or 4.9% of the population, according to Pew Research Center, "How the Global Religious Landscape Changed From 2010 to 2020" (June 2025). That is a +71% change on 2010.

Will Misaq work if my wali is not in Canada?

Yes, that is the case it is designed for. The wali registers and takes part from wherever they live, which matters because for a large share of the people this is built for, the guardian is in another country.

What is the main obstacle to Muslim marriage in Canada?

The fastest-growing Muslim population in the Western world, and much of it arrived without its extended family.
