If you searched for Misaq Sweden, you were probably trying to find out one of two things: what Misaq actually is, or whether you can use it where you live. Short answers first, then the part that is specific to Sweden.

What Misaq is, briefly

A marriage app for Muslims where the wali registers before matching begins and has their own dashboard, every member is verified with government ID and a live selfie, you see one compatible match at a time rather than a feed, and it is free until a real connection happens.

The full explanation, and what the name means, is on the main Misaq page.

Muslim marriage in Sweden

Pew Research Center puts the Muslim population of Sweden at around 838,350 in 2020, 8.1 percent of the country. Over the decade from 2010 that number grew by 99%, with the community concentrated in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala.

No country in this list grew faster. Pew records Sweden's Muslim share rising from 4.5 percent to 8.1 percent across the decade, close to a doubling in absolute terms, driven by arrivals from Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iran.

A community that grows that quickly has not had time to build the slow infrastructure that organises marriage elsewhere: the established masjid networks, the families who have known each other for thirty years, the person everybody asks. Much of the Swedish Muslim community is simply too new for that to exist yet.

The practical consequence is that people are searching with almost no institutional support, often while still establishing themselves in a new country and language.

Among the 23 countries in this series, Sweden has the 23rd largest Muslim population and the 1st fastest growth over the decade.

What is available today

Misaq has not launched yet. We are saying that plainly because the alternative is letting a page like this imply otherwise.

Two things are open right now, and they are the same everywhere:

When the app does open, it opens to the waitlist first.

Common questions

Is Misaq available in Sweden?

Not yet. Misaq has not launched in any country. The waitlist is open to people in Sweden now, and the app opens to the waitlist first.

How many Muslims live in Sweden?

Around 838,350 as of 2020, or 8.1% of the population, according to Pew Research Center, "How the Global Religious Landscape Changed From 2010 to 2020" (June 2025). That is a +99% change on 2010.

Will Misaq work if my wali is not in Sweden?

Yes, that is the case it is designed for. The wali registers and takes part from wherever they live, which matters because for a large share of the people this is built for, the guardian is in another country.

What is the main obstacle to Muslim marriage in Sweden?

The Muslim population very nearly doubled in ten years, the sharpest growth in this entire set.
