If you searched for Misaq UK, you were probably trying to find out one of two things: what Misaq actually is, or whether you can use it where you live. Short answers first, then the part that is specific to the United Kingdom.

What Misaq is, briefly

A marriage app for Muslims where the wali registers before matching begins and has their own dashboard, every member is verified with government ID and a live selfie, you see one compatible match at a time rather than a feed, and it is free until a real connection happens.

The full explanation, and what the name means, is on the main Misaq page.

Muslim marriage in the United Kingdom

Pew Research Center puts the Muslim population of the United Kingdom at around 4.3 million in 2020, 6.4 percent of the country. Over the decade from 2010 that number grew by 28%, with the community concentrated in London, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, Leicester and Luton.

British Muslims are concentrated rather than scattered, which means the community in Birmingham or Bradford is dense enough that everybody knows somebody. That helps with introductions and hurts with privacy: a conversation that does not work out is community news within a week.

The recurring tension is generational. Parents who arrived from Mirpur, Sylhet or Gujarat often still search within biradari or along family lines, while their children are at university with Muslims from twenty other backgrounds and do not see why origin should be the first filter.

There is also a legal wrinkle specific to England and Wales: a nikah performed outside a registered building, with no separate civil ceremony, may leave a spouse without the protections a legally recognised marriage carries. It is worth getting advice on before, not after.

Among the 23 countries in this series, the United Kingdom has the 14th largest Muslim population and the 11th fastest growth over the decade.

What is available today

Misaq has not launched yet. We are saying that plainly because the alternative is letting a page like this imply otherwise.

Two things are open right now, and they are the same everywhere:

When the app does open, it opens to the waitlist first.

Common questions

Is Misaq available in the United Kingdom?

Not yet. Misaq has not launched in any country. The waitlist is open to people in the United Kingdom now, and the app opens to the waitlist first.

How many Muslims live in the United Kingdom?

Around 4.3 million as of 2020, or 6.4% of the population, according to Pew Research Center, "How the Global Religious Landscape Changed From 2010 to 2020" (June 2025). That is a +28% change on 2010.

Will Misaq work if my wali is not in the United Kingdom?

Yes, that is the case it is designed for. The wali registers and takes part from wherever they live, which matters because for a large share of the people this is built for, the guardian is in another country.

What is the main obstacle to Muslim marriage in the United Kingdom?

A second and third generation negotiating with a first-generation idea of who counts as suitable.
